This scheme is administered by a corporate autonomous body made up of representatives of the employers, employees, central and state governments, medical professionals, and parliamentarians. In the case of sickness, maternity, and employment injury, ESIC registration provides employees with monetary and medical benefits.
ESIC registration is a statutory responsibility of employers of factories or any establishment under Section 2-A of the Act read with Regulation 10-B. The ESIC registration process can be easily completed online by entrepreneurs. However, as per the ESI Act 1948, it is mandatory.
What are the Requirements For ESIC Registration?
It is a requirement for factories and business establishments with 10 or more employees to register with ESIC, regardless of their salary.
The Employees’ State Insurance scheme provides health and sickness benefits to employees whose salaries are less than Rs.15,000 per month.
This scheme requires employer contributions of 4.75% and employee contributions of 1.75% to ESI. If the organization’s employees earn more than Rs.15,000 each month, then the organization will have to file a NIL return. ESIC coverage is required for the following industries:
- A factory with at least 10 employees, regardless of whether you use electricity in the manufacturing process.
- A shop, a hotel, a restaurant, a cinema, a preview theater, a road motor transport operation, and a newspaper that employs ten or more employees.
- A medical and educational institution that employs 10/20 or more people.
Registering with ESIC: Basic Procedures
It is possible for a factory or establishment to apply for registration by submitting an Employer’s Registration Form (Form-01). Once registered, the organization will receive an identification number as a code for identification purposes.
In addition to Form – I, employees must submit a duplicate family photo to their employers in addition to submitting this document to esi registration. This is a 17-digit unique identification number.
After obtaining the insurance number, the employee is issued a temporary identity card that allows him or her to access medical benefits for himself or herself and his or her family members. Once the temporary card expires, the employee will be issued a permanent identity card.
