Introduction of APEDA

The APEDA is a statutory body of the government of India. It was established in 1974 and has its headquarters at Jalandhar, Punjab, India. The APEDA has been given effect under Section 16(1) of the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act (APMC) 1959 and its Rules made thereunder.

The main objectives of this organization are:

  • To promote export trade in agricultural products and processed food products;
  • To provide consultancy services for export promotion activities;
  • To facilitate exports by establishing warehouses/warehouses & ports etc., where necessary facilities can be provided;

What is Apeda? APEDA is a nodal agency of the Central Government and it is involved in the promotion and development of the Agro and Food Processing Sector. The organization conducts various activities for improving quality standards in food processing industry, including conducting inspections on compliance with prescribed standards pertaining to equipment, facilities, procedures and facilities used by manufacturers etc., as well as monitoring their compliance with such standards.
